Global Path is dedicated to the holistic well-being of our students. Recognizing that studying abroad involves significant personal transition, this policy ensures students receive comprehensive, proactive, and culturally informed guidance to prepare for a safe, healthy, and successful experience in their host country. Our support extends beyond admission to encompass personal safety, travel logistics, and cultural acclimatization.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all pre-departure and arrival support services provided to students who have secured admission and are preparing to travel. It outlines Global Path’s advisory role and the shared responsibility for safety and preparedness between the consultancy and the student.
3. Guiding Principles
- Proactive Preparation: Potential challenges are addressed through advance planning and education.
- Student Empowerment: Students are equipped with knowledge and resources to make informed decisions and navigate their new environment confidently.
- Holistic Care: Guidance addresses practical, health, cultural, and psychological aspects of relocation.
- Clarity of Role: Global Path acts as a diligent advisor and facilitator, while ultimate responsibility for personal safety and compliance rests with the student.
4. Pre-Departure Guidance Modules
Advisors will provide structured guidance on the following critical areas before departure:
A. Travel & Logistics:
- Guidance on booking flights, with advice on optimal arrival dates relative to university orientation.
- Detailed information on airport arrival procedures, ground transportation options from the airport to accommodation, and essential local contacts.
- Checklist for essential documents to carry in hand luggage (passport, visa, offer letter, insurance, financial evidence, accommodation details).
B. Health, Insurance & Wellness:
- Mandatory Insurance: Strong, clear guidance that students must purchase comprehensive international health and travel insurance prior to departure. Advisors will provide examples of reputable providers but do not endorse specific companies.
- Medical Preparation: Advice on necessary vaccinations, carrying prescription medications (with original labels and doctor’s notes), and registering with a local doctor upon arrival.
- Mental Well-being: Discussion of common cultural adjustment challenges (e.g., homesickness, “culture shock”) and strategies for managing them, including information on university counselling services.
C. Accommodation & Finances:
- Guidance on securing safe, verified accommodation, whether university-managed or private.
- Advice on setting up local bank accounts, understanding cost of living, and managing finances responsibly abroad.
- Tips on personal safety in residences (locking doors, securing valuables).
5. Cultural Orientation & Integration
- Advisors will provide resources and coaching on the social, academic, and behavioral norms of the host country.
- Topics include: communication styles, classroom etiquette, local laws and customs, climate-appropriate clothing, and basic dos and don’ts.
- Students will be directed to official pre-arrival webinars and orientation programs offered by their host university.
6. Safety & Security Briefing
- General Safety: Practical advice on personal safety in urban environments, including safe travel at night, awareness of surroundings, and safeguarding personal belongings.
- Digital Safety: Guidance on cybersecurity, using VPNs, and being cautious with personal information online.
- Local Laws: Clear instruction that students are subject to host country laws. Advisors will highlight critical laws that may differ from Zimbabwe (e.g., related to alcohol, drugs, work rights, or public behavior).
- Emergency Protocols: Students will be provided with a clear list of emergency contacts, including:
- Local emergency services numbers (police, ambulance, fire).
- The 24/7 emergency contact for their host university’s international office.
- The nearest Zimbabwean embassy or consulate.
- Global Path’s office contact for non-emergency, procedural support.
7. Ongoing Support & Limits of Responsibility
- Global Path will maintain a supportive channel of communication for students post-arrival for initial settling-in queries.
- It is explicitly communicated that Global Path cannot provide emergency response services, legal assistance, or direct intervention in host countries. Our role is to prepare students and refer them to the appropriate on-ground authorities and university support services.
- Students are strongly encouraged to fully engage with their university’s international student support system, which is their primary resource while abroad.
8. Policy Review
This policy is reviewed annually and updated in response to changing global travel advisories, health guidelines, and student feedback.
